Program History
Career and College Directions, a U.S. Department of
Education TRIO Talent Search program, began in 1978 when Oakland City
University sent its first Talent Search grant proposal to the U.S.
Department of Education. The original name of the program was
Educational Talent Search, and in its early years, the program served
600 participants in the counties of Crawford, Daviess, Gibson, Perry,
Pike, and Spencer in Indiana. The program has been in continuous
operation since that time. In the 2002-2003 school year the name was
changed to Career and College Directions to make the purpose of the
program more clear. Directions currently serves 750 students in schools
in the counties of: Crawford, Daviess, Gibson, Martin, Perry, Pike,
Spencer and Vanderburgh in Indiana and Daviess County, Kentucky.
Directions also serves high school dropouts and high school graduates
who have postponed enrolling in college, as well as college dropouts.
